The Housing Hub website is a new way for people with disability to find suitable housing. The Housing Hub advertises vacancies for apartments and houses that are owned by housing providers. It also has a library of useful information about housing options and planning your move.
The Housing Hub currently lists vacancies from housing providers in the North Eastern Melbourne Area (NEMA), with NSW Hunter New England region vacancies coming soon. The vacancies may include existing Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), new SDA, non-SDA supported accommodation and private rental. The number of vacancies and the different types of vacancies will keep growing as the website develops.
The Housing Hub was funded by the Department of Social Services (DSS) Sector Development Fund as a pilot project, and it is hoped that it will be scaled across Australia soon. An important feature of the website is to try and capture the sort of accommodation people are seeking, so that this information can be fed to government and private developers leading to more general and disability accessible housing builds.
