Elder abuse in Australia has become more visible and its prevalence appears to be growing with estimates indicating that between two and 14 per cent of older people experience abuse.1 A number of inquiries and reviews have highlighted examples of elder abuse, neglect and exploitation, particularly in residential aged care settings, and have made recommendations that have shaped the reform agenda in relation to the quality and safety of aged care services.
